My name is Stephen MacDonald and I'm the creator of Songs for Social Studies. As an educator, I saw the benefit of integrating music with academic subjects. This program was developed to achieve that goal.
Research shows that music has an important role in the development of intelligence. So, by combining music with social studies facts, Songs for Social Studies becomes an excellent study guide. By putting historical names, dates, and events to rhythm and melody, children can easily retain a greater degree of information than just using their text.
There are 12 original songs and a curriculum. The curriculum consists of a lyric sheet, a definition sheet, a word find, a crossword puzzle, a quiz, and a short essay question. Here's how it works. First, click on the Table of Contents, then scroll down to the song you want to hear. Click on that song, and the curriculum guide becomes available. Just click and enjoy the music.
It has been so rewarding, developing this project, and I hope you really enjoy Songs for Social Studies.
